Today we finished reading Beowulf Part 1 sections 10-13. After we discussed everything that has happened so far in the story we had a quiz over Part 1.

If you missed today you will need to make the quiz up on your own time. You can come in before school, at lunch, or during a period that you do not have class.

Monday, September 28, 2014

Most of our classes were gone to the Cameron University tour and I was gone today. If you were in class this was an opportunity for you to catch up on anything you are missing in this class and then your other classes.

Today we read Part 1.6 to 1.10 of Beowulf. Make sure you are keeping notes on things that indicate whether or not Beowulf is an epic hero.
Wednesday, September 24, 2014

We had a short discussion on the two different modern translations of Beowulf and then we began reading. We read Part 1.1 to 1.6.

Use the graphic organizer to take notes as we read. Pay special attention to gathering info about how Beowulf could be considered an epic hero. We will be writing a research paper over whether or not Beowulf should be considered an epic hero when we are finished with the story.

Monday, September 22, 2014

We did not have a writing prompt today. We will not have any prompts this week. Also, if you did not turn in your writing journal make sure you do so.

We took the Anglo Saxon open note quiz today. The main goal for this quiz was to make sure you know how to take and use good notes. If you missed the quiz you will need to take it before school, at lunch, or during a free period that you have (1st thru 5th only).

We looked at some Old English and tried to figure out what it is before I shared the modern day translation. Remember that Beowulf was first written down in Old English.

No writing prompt today. The journals were turned in today for me to grade this weekend.

I did a short PowerPoint presentation over the Anglo Saxon time period. You can watch it here: Anglo Saxon Time Period.

I checked for questions and made sure everyone had good notes to use on the open note quiz that we will take on Monday.

Picture proofs and ID cards were handed out.

  •  Do the writing prompt: Be creative!!
  • We finished making our posters for the chapter about the Anglo Saxons (pgs. 6-17).
  • We did the gallery walk with each group explaining the sections they were responsible for.
  • Then we discussed the information we just read and learned in relation to the story we our about to read.

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

Make at least two graphs for this prompt. One could be a pie chart showing how much time you spend doing major events each day. The second could be a bar graph showing how much you actually like doing each of those events.

We started learning about the Anglo Saxon people and the time period they lived in. Most specifically we looked at their politics, religions, ethics, and social life. We read pgs. 6-17 in our textbook in small groups. Each group was assigned a couple of sections they were responsible for reading and creating a poster that highlights the main ideas and facts. We will do a gallery walk tomorrow so that everyone can learn about the entire chapter without having to read it.

**The scholarship research was due today.**

Tuesday, September 9, 2014

For today's prompt you should pick one way to get through a boring class and explain how you do it. You could include ways to keep from getting caught etc.
After the writing prompt we finished student college presentations. Remember that you should come across as the expert so be confident in your presentation. Remember to look at the group. Summarize and tell the important details, do not simply read your slides.
