• Mrs. Holdge handed out numerous local scholarship applications today. If you missed class today you definitely need to go by her office and pick these up.
• We took a quiz over "A Modest Proposal". If you were gone or you had an extra day due to an earlier absence you need to make it up on Monday. You can do this in the morning, I get here by 7:20 every day, or at lunch, I almost always eat lunch in my room.
• We went over the Mock Newscast/Satire Project and Rubric.
• We split into groups for the project and began brainstorming ideas for your project.

• Today's Writing prompt. Make sure you give good details about the robot. Think about adjectives and word choice as you write.

 

• Today we started discussing satire and we looked at a variety of examples. Take a look at the following links. The first is a real news story about the January Atlanta snow storm. The next two are satirical news stories about the same event.

• After watching the clips write down what you think the definition of satire is in your own words.

Today became a little confusing because I was grading state practice writing tests all day and there was a different teacher in the class each hour. 

We did a figurative language worksheet today that I will count as extra credit if you turn it in. If you want to do it and were not here come and see me for a copy of it.

• Final research paper is due today. For every school day that it is late you will lose one letter grade off your final score.
• We played Jeopardy to review what everyone knows about figurative language.

• We spent the day in the library finishing up our research papers. 
• The papers are due tomorrow the 22nd with a works cited page at the end and the rubric stapled to the top.

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

• We worked on typing up your final draft of the research paper.
• Tomorrow will be the last day we will be in the library. If you are not going to finish you will need to work on it on your own time as homework. 
• ***The final draft is due Thursday, February 20th. The paper should be printed out (on one side of the paper only) with a works cited page at the end. The rubric MUST be placed on top of the paper when you staple it all together.***

• We did a peer edit of the rough drafts today using the Peer Edit Checklist.
• When doing the actual editing of your partners paper make sure you use the standard Proof Reading marks.

**** The final draft of your research paper will be due next Thursday February 20th. You must staple the grading rubric to the front of your paper.******

Today we finally got to work on our rough drafts in the library. The due date schedule has changed to the following:

Rough draft is due Friday the 14th when you come to class. It needs to be printed out and ready to be edited. 

The final draft will be due Thursday, February 20th at the end of the school day. NOT THE END OF THE DAY but THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY! It must be a hard copy.

Today was a half day due to the data day but we did continue to work on our rough drafts for the short period of time we had.

• We went over who was missing what assignments.
• Answered any questions you may have about assignments.
• Worked on making up any missing assignments.
• Used the iPads to work on rough drafts. We could not use the computers today due to testing. We should be able to be in the library the rest of the week.
• The rough draft is now due Monday February 10th pending any further weather delays.
